ABOUT RITA
RitaAward-winning author Rita Herron fell in love with books at the ripe age of eight when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. Although she wanted to be a writer then and actually scrawled her first novel at age twelve, she didn’t think real people grew up to be writers, so she became a kindergarten teacher instead. Ten years ago, she traded her classroom storytelling and puppets for a computer and now writes so she doesn’t have to get a real job.

Having sold over thirty books to date, she enjoys spinning spine-tingling romantic suspense tales filled with murder, mayhem, and spicy romance as well as sexy romantic comedies. She currently writes for HQN, Harlequin Intrigue, Harlequin American, Dorchester and has recently sold a southern short story to Belle Books.

If you want to know more about Rita or have a question for her about her books, or writing in general, email Rita and she'll be happy to answer your question.

Question
What do you love most about being a writer?
Answer
Being able to sleep until eight o'clock and not having to fight traffic! Seriously, I like the flexibility-- I can set my own hours and be home when my kids are home. And I love being creative and getting paid for it -- there is nothing more exciting (well, almost nothing), than when a new idea pops into my head, then when the details and scenes start coming together to form a story.
Question
What do you like least about being a writer?
Answer
The inconsistent money -- my kids get tired of hearing me say, "I'm supposed to get a check sometime soon, then we can go shopping!" I also don't like it when people act as if I'm not working -- writing is fun but it's also a lot of hard work. Working at home can get lonely, too.
Question
What are your five favorite books?
Answer
Cry Wolf - Tami Hoag
Blue Willow - Deborah Smith
Shocking Pink - Erica Spindler
Red Roses Mean Love - Jacquie D'Alessandro
Our Husband -- Stephanie Bond
Question
What is your favorite romantic movie?
Answer
While You Were Sleeping. What could be more romantic than being caught between two sexy brothers? I also loved that quirky family.
Question
What is your favorite romantic song or composition?
Answer
I have two - Desperado by the Eagles (my favorite group) and Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton (that one makes me swoon!).
